Reading Museum: audience development


Reading Museum commissioned an Audience Development Plan as part of it’s Heritage Lottery funded project Outside the Box.

Outside the Box worked with twenty-one partner museums across Buckinghamshire and Berkshire to extend Reading Museum’s loans service and to fill gaps in the loan collection. The service traditionally loaned to schools and through this project the service was also extended to older people, the ‘Memory Boxes’ enable older people the chance to touch objects from the collections.

The Audience Development Plan examined how Reading Museum engaged with its audiences through it learning programme and other activities. It set future priorities by reviewing existing evaluation and by undertaking further consultation with staff and potential users, taking into account key Reading Borough Council’s strategic aims. The resulting plan included a three-year action plan to respond to service changes and developments.
